Supermarket bags can be replaced with these reusable handy scrunchy bags. You've seen hesian and other bulky bags to replace supermarket bags, but they take up space, can't always be washed, and you need to remember to put them in the boot before you go shopping. These beauties scrunch up small so you can keep them in your handbag, or on your keyring, and a spare set in the glovebox.
We've all had meat juices or blood leak in a supermarket bag before, or soft fruit squish and ooze. Did you know that unless you wash your shopping bags certain bugs such as salmonella, E.coli and campylobacter (the most common causes of food poisoning) can survive, and are often found on the outside of even non leaking meat packages. These bugs can transfer to other foods, bags and packages. Our bags can be washed in your washing machine just like clothes, but please don't iron them. Best washed when not scrunched up. Hesian & Polypropylene bags often have a Polyethylene film laminated inside that makes the bag not easily washed, leading to an increased possibility of food poisoning.
If 1 is good, then 6 is great!
Easy identification colours so you know what goes where to avoid cross-contamination and food poisoning.
Our Big Stuff bag (Forest Green) is extra large @ 25L for those big items, but still scrunches down small for storage. Ideal for bread, paper towels and tissues.
When you're not using your bags, you can clip them together with the bonus carabineer included. Clip the drawstrings of the bags together on your carabineer and clip it on to your shopping trolley. When you're finished using the bags, clip them all together by the drawstrings when scrunched. You may even want to clip just a couple together and use the carabineer to clip them to your keyring for next time.
We used to use carabineers to clip the old plastic bag handles together in the boot of the car so the bags didn't fall over and spill their contents. You can use the same trick with these bags. It works a treat.
One way to reduce waste is to reuse these bags as much as possible. That's why we designed them to scrunch down small to keep in your handbag or car. They are conveniently there when you need them so you are less likely to forget, and much more likely to reuse them.
Reusing means...
You may be suprised to hear some facts about these Polyester bags vs traditional HDPE bags (High Density PolyEthylene), and others.
The environmental impact of all types of bags is dominated by resource use and production. In comparison, transport, secondary packaging and end-of-life management has little effect. To have a lower global warming potential than HDPE shopping bags that are not reused, the following types need to be used a certain number of times.
You may say, well let's use paper bags. The trouble is, a lot of energy is used to recycle paper and as you use more bags, the problem is multiplied. Similar problem with LDPE as the bags are not strong enough to be reused indefinitely so they need to be recycled more often, using more chemicals and energy.
Polypropylene bags - as now being offered at several supermarkets, often have a film laminated inside which means they can not easily be recycled or washed.
Recyclable? - Yes, our bags are completely recyclable.
By using our iamhelpingNZ.com bags you can show the world that you care, plus show others where to get their own bags. If we all do our bit, it WILL make a difference.
Our std size 10L bags are not like others. Our custom designs have a wider opening and longer handles than similar bags to make filling easier and carrying more comfortable, plus of course the wording and colour coding so you can reduce the chance of contamination and food poisoning.
No need to rummage around in your boot for bags to match the supermarket you are shopping at to avoid embarrassment when you can't get to your regular supermarket, or you buy some things from one supermarket and others from another. These bags are universal, plus colour coded and labelled to reduce contamination.
